The Paddle concept began in 2010 and has become an annual event to coincide with World Environmental Day. The route begins at Muizenberg and takes paddlers through the canals, vleis and rivers, out to sea, and finishes in the Milnerton lagoon (27kms).

The are two central message: ‘we are all connected to the waterways’, and ‘the health of the city is seen in its waterways’.

The special project this year is about raising money to purchase and install continuous monitoring instruments that will capture 5 water quality parameters: temperature, pH, Total Dissolved Solids, Electrical Conductivity, and Dissolved Oxygen. They will be securely fastened to various places and provide data that can be uploaded onto a website via a telemetry system.
